Jacobs remains unbeaten at World Curling Tour event

Team Jacobs picked up key wins against John Shuster and Brad Gushue on Saturday

After a pair of wins on opening day of the Ashley Homestore Curling Classic in Penticton, BC, Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs remains unbeaten at the World Curling Tour event after a pair of wins on Saturday.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, opened the day with a 6-3 win against American John Shuster before beating Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Nfld. 8-5 in the evening draw.

Against Shuster, Jacobs took an early lead with a pair in the opening end but Shuster would come right back with a pair of his own in the second end.

The teams traded singles in the third and fourth ends before Jacobs took the lead for good with another single in the fifth.

The Jacobs rink sealed the win with steals of one each in the sixth and seventh ends.

Against Gushue, Jacobs trailed 5-3 through five ends after Gushue scored three in the fifth to take the lead.

Jacobs proceeded to tie the game with a pair in the sixth and stole three in the seventh to take the lead before running Gushue out of rocks in the eighth end.

Jacobs will wrap up round robin action on Sunday against Neil Dangerfield of Victoria, BC.

A World Curling Tour event, the Ashley Homestore Curling Classic features 24 men’s teams split into four pools of six teams each.

Playoff action begins Sunday with quarterfinal action.

The tournament semifinals and championship are set for Monday.
