Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Club in Sault Ste. Marie is in a solid position heading into the final day of the 2016 Travelers Men’s Provincial Championship in North Bay.
Team Jacobs, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, picked up a pair of victories on Friday to move into first place with a 5-1 record after round robin action on Friday.
Jacobs opened the day with an 8-3 win over Jordan Chandler of the Sudbury Curling Club.
The Jacobs rink scored three in the opening end before stealing another in the third end to take the early lead.
After Chandler scored a pair in the fourth end, Jacobs would score two more in the fifth and cemented the victory with another deuce in the eighth end.
Jacobs would wrap up the day with a 9-2 win over Colin Koivula of the Port Arthur Curling Club.
Jacobs would again open the game with three in the opening end and held a 5-1 lead through three ends.
The Jacobs rink would also pick up a steal of three in the sixth end.
The two teams entered the evening draw with identical 4-1 records.
Heading into the final round robin draw on Saturday morning, Jacobs sits at 5-1 while Chandler and Koivula are tied for second at 4-2 and face each other in the draw.
