Indians salvage split with North Bay SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Soo Indians rebounded from a tough overtime loss to North Bay in their NOJHL semi-final opener here Saturday to even the series with a Sunday afternoon whitewash. Despite outshooting the visiting Skyhawks 42-27 on Saturday, the Indians lost 3-2 when A.J. Shiverdecker scored in OT. Nick Zilka and Ky Moje tallied the Indians' goals. Undaunted, the Indians returned with a vengeance on Sunday and blanked North Bay 5-0 as Zilka scored twice and Brennan Poderzay earned the shutout. Several of Poderzay's saves were of the difficult variety. Isaac Viau, Sam Yearsley and hustling rookie winger Mike Connolly also scored for the Indians. The line of Viau, Sean Farley and Justin Maciuk turned in an exceptional performance for the Indians and Yearsley was a going concern throughout the afternoon. As Poderzay was sharp in the Indians' net, defencemen Pete Landem and Aaron Brown turned in tidy blueline efforts. "We showed character in not letting the opening loss get us down," said Indians' coach Kevin Cain. "We could have easily come out of this with two wins but I was happy with our effort in both games." Games three and four in the best-of-seven set will be in North Bay on Thursday and Friday and game six is back here at Big Bear Arena on Sunday at 6 p.m.
