Indians cool off Eskimos

Nick Zilka and newcomer Scott Pulak each scored once and added an assist and goalie Brennan Poderzay made 25 saves as the Soo Indians shut down the Abitibi Eskimos 4-1 in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League play on Friday night at Big Bear Arena. After beginning the season 0-5-2, Abitibi had gone 11-2-1 before running into the Indians, who made amends after a sloppy 9-6 loss to the Sudbury Kal Tire Junior Wolves earlier in the week. Derek Thocker and Peter Landem -- into an empty net -- also scored for the Indians and veteran defenceman Michel Champagne replied for the Eskimos. Michigan Soo native Miles Williams took the loss in the Abitibi net, his third setback of the season. Williams has been in goal for all 11 of Abitibi's victories. The win over Abitibi boosts the Indians' record to 13-9 as they take a break from the NOJHL schedule until Dec. 8 when they play at Manitoulin. The Indians' next home game is Dec. 13 when they play host to Blind River in a rare Wednesday night match at Big Bear. ************************************************************
