OSHAWA –- A tough road trip ended with a loss on Sunday evening in Oshawa as the Soo Greyhounds suffered their third straight defeat.

The Greyhounds dropped a 3-2 decision to the Generals. The loss ended a tough road trip as they lost games in Barrie on Thursday night and Belleville on Saturday night prior to Sunday night’s contest.

“I thought we battled hard,” said Greyhounds coach Craig Hartsburg. “We were better tonight than we were last night (in Belleville). It was an intense game. We weren’t good at times, especially in our end. There were some guys that competed really hard tonight.”

John Tavares led the way for the Generals with a goal and an assist while David Jarram, a former Greyhound, and Dean Howard, a Sault native, also scored for the homeside. Howard’s goal made the game 3-1 late in the third period. After a faceoff win by Tavares, Howard swiped at the puck in front of the Greyhounds goal and chipped the puck over Kyle Gajewski for the eventual game-winner.

Sean Jones had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds while Andrew Campbell also scored in a losing cause.

The Greyhounds had chances, specifically during the second period when they had a pair of five-on-three man advantages.

“We had some chances,” Hartsburg said. “We didn’t capitalize on some of the power plays.”

Hartsburg did look at the positives of the night.

“Our penalty kill was good,” said Hartsburg. “We had some guys who competed really hard. We just have to go back home now and regroup and get ready for next weekend. There were some guys that battled hard for us and now we have to go home and get everybody on the same page.”

The loss drops the Greyhounds record to 12-3-1-0, which is still good for top spot in the West Division after the second-place Windsor Spitfires dropped an 8-5 decision to Brampton earlier in the day.

The Greyhounds now prepare for a tough two-game homestand which will see them face Barrie on Friday night and Ottawa on Saturday. Start times for both games is 7:30 p.m.
