Hounds shoot past the Colts (correction)

Playing in their sixth consecutive road game to start the Ontario Hockey League campaign, the Soo Greyhounds rallied to defeat the Barrie Colts in a shootout.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the third period, the Hounds tallied twice before outscoring the Colts 2-1 in a shootout to claim a 4-3 win.

Sean Jones beat Colts netminder Andrew Perugini with the Greyhounds' third shot in the shootout before Kyle Gajewski stopped Vladimir Nikiforov to seal the win.

Cody Thornton also scored for the Hounds on the first attempt in the shootout.

Josh Godfrey opened the scorng in the first period with a power play marker 9:51 in to give the Hounds the early lead. But Tomas Marcinko's first of two goals tied the score before the end of the period.

After a scoreless second period, Marcinko scored along with Hunter Tremblay on the power play to give the Colts a 3-1 lead at 4:42 of the third.

Dustin Jeffrey's seventh goal of the season with the man advantage cued the comeback as Andrew Desjardins scored with 2:40 remaining in regulation time to send the game to overtime.

The teams managed only two shots each in the five minute, four-on-four overtime, sending the game to the shootout.

Matt Lyall recorded three assists for the Hounds while Jeffrey also picked up a helper. Gajewski stopped 33 of 36 shots and was named the game's first star.

Sault product Nick Plastino set up a goal for Barrie.

The Greyhounds continue their three-game trip with stops in Guelph on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Oshawa on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
