The Soo Greyhounds continue to win and look to move their way up the Ontario Hockey League's western conference standings.

On Thursday night in Sarnia, the Greyhounds potted two quick goals to open the third period and give themselves a 5-3 win over the Sting.

With six straight wins and an overtime loss in their last seven games, the Greyhounds now find themselves 11 points up on the ninth place Erie Otters for the conference's final playoff spot.

The win also keeps the Hounds just one point back of seventh place Windsor, two back of sixth place Saginaw and four points behind Plymouth for the west division lead and the conference's second seed. Windsor and Plymouth have a game in hand on the Soo while Saginaw has two.

In Sarnia, the Greyhounds spotted themselves a two goal lead as Ryan Kitchen scored short handed just 2:18 into the contest while David Kuchejda added his 19th of the year at 12:11.

But the Sting answered back with two goals of their own 46 seconds apart before the first period was out as Richard Clune and Tomas Pospisil beat Hounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski.

Scott Restoule and Sarnia's Harrison Reed traded second period goals.

In the final period, the Greyhounds jumped all over the Sting early and quickly sealed a victory as Dustin Jeffrey scored at 1:40 on the power play before Cody Thornton added an insurance marker just 47 seconds later.

Gajewski stopped 27 of 30 shots for the win while Thornton added two assists and Kitchen set up another.

The Hounds continue their road trip on Friday night in Kitchener at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday against Plymouth at 2 p.m.
