Hounds score another convincing win (video)

The Soo Greyhounds aren't showing any signs of slowing down.

Putting together another solid performance from the goaltender out, the Hounds skated past the Saginaw Spirit 5-1 on Friday night at the Steelback Centre in front of 4,673 fans.

The streaking Hounds now have nine wins and an overtime loss, good for 19 of a possible 20 points, through 10 regular season games.

The Hounds now stand as the Ontario Hockey League's lone team to have yet taste defeat in regulation time as the Kitchener Rangers and Windsor Spitfires both lost on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Hounds took a quick 2-0 lead midway through the second frame as Josh Godfrey scored on the power play and Aaron Alphonso potted another 1:23 apart.

Tyler Murovich of the Spirit and the Hounds' Chris MacKinnon then traded goals to send the game into the third period with the Soo leading 3-1.

Matt Lyall salted away the game for the Greyhounds in the third with a pair of goals, including one on a five-on-three power play and another on a breakaway.

Kyle Gajewski, who again came up with timely saves, stopped 27 of 28 shots to pick up his ninth victory of the season in goal.

Dustin Jeffrey recorded three assists in the game while Alphonso set up a pair and MacKinnon another.

Aside from dominating the OHL standings, the Greyhounds are also tearing up the individual points standings.

Jeffrey is tied for second in league scoring with five goals and 12 assists for 17 points. Godfrey (7-7-14) is eighth while Alphonso and James Livingston share 19th position with seven goals and four assists each.

The Hounds continue their five-game homestand on Sunday as the Plymouth Whalers visit the Steelback Centre for a 7 p.m. start.
