It wasn't one of the best performances for the Soo Greyhounds but the locals managed to escape with two points.

On Saturday night at the Steelback Centre, the Hounds used a goal and two assists from Dustin Jeffrey to nip the Peterborough Petes 4-3 in front of 4,586 fans.

Aside from the offense from their top line, the Hounds scored twice on the power play and were effective on the penalty kill, especially in the second period when discipline problems led to three consecutive Petes power plays.

Jake Muzzin, Chris MacKinnon and Brandon MacLean also scored for the Hounds, who led 2-1 after one period and 3-2 after two.

Brett Theberge and Pat Daley replied with goals for Peterbrough.

Bryce O'Hagan made the start in goal in for the Hounds and looked comfortable throughout stopping 19 of 22 shots. Veteran Trevor Cann faced 29 Greyhound shots for Peterborough.

The Hounds move into a tie with the Windsor Spitfires for first place in the Ontario Hockey League's west division but remain three points behind the Kitchener Rangers for the western conference lead.

The Greyhounds now hit the road with a stops in Sudbury on Tuesday, Plymouth Friday afternoon and Sarnia on Saturday.

(Video highlights will not be available for tonight's game, but a photo gallery by SooToday.com's Donna Hopper follows.)
