The Soo Greyhounds let the opportunity of returning home off a successful road trip slip away on Sunday afternoon in Guelph.

Facing a Guelph squad who was searching for their first win in seven games, the Greyhounds again struggled to put together a solid 60 minute game.

The Guelph Storm scored a goal in each of the first two periods and added two more in the third to capture a 4-1 win over the Hounds.

The loss was the Greyhounds second in a row after defeating Windsor to open the trip on Thursday.

Drew Doughty scored for the Storm in the first period while Tyler Melancon added another on the power play in the second frame. Rafael Rotter shorthanded and Jamie Arniel scored 1:35 apart in the third period for a 4-0 lead at the 6:31 mark.

Midway through the final stanza, Josh Godfrey broke Thomas McCollum's shutout bid with a power play goal for the Soo.

Tyler Doig and Doughty set up two goals each in the win while McCollum stopped 23 of 24 Greyhound shots. Kyle Gajewski made the start in goal for the Hounds and faced 29 shots.

With back-to-back losses, the Greyhounds fall to 9-11-0-2 for 20 points, good for a fourth place standing in the Ontario Hockey League's west division and eighth overall in the western conference.

The Greyhounds will open a three-game homestand on Wednesday night as the Sarnia Sting visits the Steelback Centre for a 7 p.m. start.

On Friday, the Hounds host the Windsor Spitfires at 7:30 p.m. before taking on the Guelph Storm at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
