A perfect shootout performance helped lift the Sudbury Wolves past the Soo Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action on Wednesday night in the Nickel City.

Scoring three goals in three attempts in the shootout, the Wolves were credited with a 4-3 win as the second half of the OHL season got underway.

Tied at 3-3 after 60 minutes of regulation time and five more of overtime, the teams headed for the shootout where Ryan Kitchen of the Greyhounds was the only one of six shooters to be stopped.

Scott Restoule and Tyler Kennedy connected for the Greyhounds on their first two attempts while Sault product Matt Dias and Nick Foligno scored for the Wolves to set the stage for Kevin Baker's game winner.

Dias, with his 14th of the season, opened the game's scoring at 13:12 of the first period on the power play before Kennedy answered right back just 40 seconds later to tie the contest at 1-1. Baker and Jason Pitton then traded power play goals in the second period to send the game to the final frame tied at 2-2.

Pitton put the Hounds ahead 3-2 just 4:39 into the third period but Foligno tied the game once again with a shorthanded effort at 11:37.

The Greyhounds outshot the Wolves 11-2 in the third period and 33-24 overall. Kevin Beech took the win in goal for the Wolves while Kyle Gajewski was tagged with the loss.

With the shootout loss, the Hounds do pick up a single point and move to 12-21-2-1 for 27 points on the season and a ninth place standing in the western conference, one point behind the Windsor Spitfires.

The Hounds make a return home to Memorial Gardens on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Sarnia Sting to begin a four-game homestand.
