The Soo Greyhounds finally managed to scoop up two points on Sunday night.

The Greyhounds put themselves in a position to win all three games on the road trip but Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Kitchener Rangers is all the locals have to show for.

On Friday night, the Hounds coughed up a 3-0 lead in a loss to the Mississauga IceDogs before dropping a 3-1 decision to the Belleville Bulls on Saturday, a game in which the Greyhounds played well enough to win.

The Greyhounds will now enjoy a break from the Ontario Hockey League schedule over the holidays until gathering for a contest in Saginaw on December 28.

Following the game in Saginaw, the Hounds begin a six-game homestand at the Steelback Centre against the Sarnia Sting on Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. On New Year's Eve, the Rangers visit for a 2 p.m. start.

Against the Rangers on Sunday, captain Cody Thornton scored the game winner in the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Thornton's 19th goal of the season came unassisted with just 2:50 remaining in regulation time.

Peter Tsimikalis gave the Rangers a 1-0 first period lead but the Hounds took advantage of a major penalty to Kitchener for checking from behind and Brandon Biggers scored his second of the year with 16 seconds remaining in the frame.

Kyle Gajewski, the game's first star, kicked aside 27 of 28 shots for the win while the Hounds fired 33 shots at John Murray.

The win vaults the Greyhounds back to the .500 mark at 16-16-0-4 for 36 points and an eighth place standing in the western conference. The Hounds sit two points out of sixth spot and 14 points behind the conference leading Rangers.
