Hounds defeat Wolves in shootout

The Soo Greyhounds battled back with a pair of second period goals to defeat the Sudbury Wolves 4-3 in a shootout. With the Greyhounds trailing 3-1 in the second period David Kuchejda beat Sudbury netminder Sebastian Dahm twice in the period to pull the Hounds to even terms, setting the stage for Brandon MacLean’s shootout winner. Cody Thornton opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the opening period before the Wolves reeled off three straight goals to end the period.

Zack McCullough and Devin DiDiomete scored power play markers while Andrew Self also scored in the opening frame for the Wolves.

After a scoreless third period and overtime frame, periods that also saw no penalties called, the Greyhounds opened the shootout scoring as Thornton beat Dahm with the first shot. Kevin Baker evened the shootout with the Wolves facing a loss. The next goal came when MacLean scored on the Greyhounds ninth shootout attempt. Kyle Gajewski sealed the win for the Greyhounds by stopping Gary Friesen.

Gajewski stopped 32 shots in the win while Dahm stopped 24 for the Wolves.

Next action for the Greyhounds will be on Friday night when they host the Plymouth Whalers in a 7:30 p.m. start.
