The Soo Greyhounds continue to show the look of contenders.

After struggling and going through several ups and downs during the first part of the season, the Greyhounds appear to have gained the confidence needed to compete in the western conference.

Playing another aggressive game, the Hounds overcame a pair of two-goal deficits to down the Owen Sound Attack 7-4 on Friday night at the Steelback Centre for their fifth straight win.

Owen Sound opened the scoring in an entertaining first period just 49 seconds in as Marek Bartanus picked up a Hounds turnover and fired a shot from inside the blueline that fooled Greyhound starting goaltender Kyle Gajewski.

Dustin Jeffrey nearly tied the game as his shot rang off the post but the Attack were handed another giveaway and sniper Bobby Ryan deked Gajewski for a 2-0 Attack lead.

Despte the early shortcomings, the Greyhounds refused to roll over. Josh Moes put the locals on the board at 4:21 with a bad angle shot that sneaked past Attack goaltender Neil Conway.

Owen Sound then regained their two goal lead midway through the frame as Bobby Sanguinetti took advantage of a questionable penalty call on Sean Jones after the whistle by beating Gajewski on the power play to chase the Hounds starter from the game in favour of Matt Hache.

Just 29 seconds later, Josh Godfrey's point blast on the power play cut the lead to 3-2 before Andrew Campbell potted another 33 seconds later to tie the game at 3-3.

In the second period, the Greyhounds took their first lead of the game at 5:59 on Cody Thornton's solo effort on a two-on-one break. Jones then picked up his first Ontario Hockey League goal as he converted a perfect kick pass from Dustin Jeffrey at 11:14.

In the third period, the Attack pulled themselves back into the game at 5:04 as Ryan, who fought Brad Good in the second period, pounced on his second goal of the night to cut the lead to 5-4. But Jeffrey sealed the win with 5:04 remaining as he beat Scott Bowles to lift the locals to a 6-4 cushion before Andrew Desjardins added an empty net marker to cap the scoring.

The Attack outshot the Greyhounds 29-26 in front of 4,392 fans. Godfrey was named the game's first star while Ryan collected second star honours and Jeffrey third.
