The Soo Greyhounds turned a solid third period into a victory to keep their winning streak alive.

On Wednesday night at the Steelback Centre, the Hounds potted two goals in the final frame to break a 3-3 tie and skate to a 5-3 decision over the Sudbury Wolves.

With their sixth win in a row, the Greyhounds are one of the hottest teams in the Ontario Hockey League.

Since New Year's Eve, the Hounds have only lost twice in regulation time against London and Plymouth, once in a shootout to London while knocking off 14 wins, gaining 29 of a possible 34 points. London and Plymouth are one and two, respectively, in the league's overall standings.

The Wolves opened the scoring in the first period as local product Matt Dias snuck in behind the Greyhounds defense and lifted a backhand into the top corner on Hounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski on the power play.

Brandon MacLean evened the score for the Greyhounds before Cody Thornton took a dump in that took a funny hop off the boards and put it into the empty net with Wolves goaltender Sebastian Dahm behind the net for a 2-1 lead after one period.

In the second period, Josh Godfrey scored on the power play before the Wolves battled back with two quick goals late in the period to even the score heading to the third period.

Dias tipped in his second goal of the night on the power play before Kyle Tarini was credited with a goal after a video review.

Dias, who was the Wolves best player on the night, was ejected before the period was out after being handed a major penalty and a game misconduct for slew-footing.

Thornton scored the game winner on his 30th goal of the season before David Kuchejda added another to cap the scoring in the third period.

Four fights were also on the card capped by a dust up between Hounds defenseman Brad Good and the Wolves Devin Didiomete after the final buzzer had sounded.

Dustin Jeffrey picked up three assists and Andrew Desjardins two while Thornton, Godfrey and MacLean set up one each.

The Greyhounds continue their three-game homestand on Friday as the Peterborough Petes visit for a 7:30 p.m. start. On Sunday, the locals entertain Plymouth at 7 p.m.
