After the Hounds built a 2-0 lead through two periods, the Whalers struck for two quick goals in the third period to square things up.

But as quickly as Plymouth rallied, the Greyhounds swung the momentum back in their favour as Brandon MacLean`s shot from a bad angle found it`s way into the net for the game winner just 1:57 later.

Dustin Jeffrey, who was stopped on a penalty shot in the second period, added an insurance marker with six seconds remaining.

In the end, Kyle Gajewski proved to be the difference in the victory. Both the Greyhound netminder and Plymouth counterpart Michael Neuvirth had steller outings and made several difficult saves throughout.

Matt Lyall, who has been a Greyhound spark plug this season, was solid at both ends of the ice while scoring once and assisting on another.

Lyall opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game as his centring pass went in off a Whalers skate. In the second period, Lyall set up a pinching Andrew Campbell from the point for a 2-0 lead.

James Livingston picked up three assists while Gajewski stopped 25 of 27 shots for his 10th win of the season.

Andrew Fournier scored both Plymouth goals with Chris Terry picking up assists on each. Neuvirth faced 31 Greyhound shots.

The Hounds continue their five-game homestand on Friday as the Belleville Bulls visit the Steelback Centre for a 7:30 p.m. start.
