SOO GREYHOUNDS

************************* The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club has announced that they have completed a trade with the Owen Sound Attack, acquiring Wayne Simmonds in exchange for Chris MacKinnnon, the Soo’s second-round pick in 2008 and the Soo’s second-round pick in 2010.

Simmonds [shown] joins the Greyhounds during his second season in the Ontario Hockey League.

Through 29 games played, he leads all Attack players with 17 goals and 22 assists (39 points).

This past summer the 6’2”, 175-pound right winger was drafted in the 2nd round (61st overall) by the Los Angeles Kings.

On Monday Wayne was named one of 37 players invited to take part in Canada’s National Junior Selection Camp later this month.

“With this announcement today we’re extremely excited to add a player of the caliber of Wayne Simmonds to our lineup. We feel Wayne is one of the premiere forwards in the OHL and brings qualities as a player and as a person that will be instrumental in our quest for a championship” commented Hounds GM Dave Torrie.

The Greyhounds expect to welcome the newest member of their team into town later today.

“We would like to wish Chris MacKinnon all the best with his future in Owen Sound. Chris was a valuable member of our hockey club for the last year and a half and a quality young man who we know will do very well in Owen Sound,” concluded Torrie.
