Hinich grabs impressive 7th in SBX race at Mt. Cypress' Olympic site in Vancouver

(Mt. Cypress, Vancouver B.C.) ~ It was the first time a Snowboardcross event has been held at Cypress Mountain, the venue for snowboarding at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Participants from Canada, U.S.A. and European countries took part in the Canadian Open Snowboardcross Finals on March 31st and April 1st.

Searchmont's Myrica Hinich, a member of the Ontario SBX team, was the sole qualifier of the Ontario women after placing 13th in single qualifications on March 31 and came in 16th of 24 competitors overall in the boardercross finals. She is the sole Northern Ontario member on the team.

"It was the first time I raced so tightly against competitors of National Team ability, and I was a bit scared to pass anyone", Hinich explained, who was extremely pleased with her placement.

After getting her first taste of this competition, she decided she could do better. During the April 1st single qualification race she finished an impressive 5th place, and came in 7th of 24 competitors overall in the SBX race.

"My parents thought my result was an April fool's joke", Hinich laughed as she was relaxing with other participants by doing some skateboarding. "The night before the races I didn't feel so great. I had low energy", Hinich said. "I haven't been eating well enough, living by myself for the first time in Collingwood since November. Being a vegetarian is a challenge while on the road with the team. My Mom suggested to add extra protein to my dinner that night, and it seemed to work! I can't wait now to eat home cooked meals again soon and to help my dad and brother finish up maple syrup season in Searchmont! And maybe I can still get a run or two in with my snowboard."

Local sponsors for Hinich include Fuzed Notions Graphic Design, Algoma's Watertower Inn and Main Filter & Filtrec North America.

Myrica Hinich gratefully thanks all her sponsors for believing in her, and invites new sponsors as well to support her further in her incredible Snowboard racing career.
