High school sports digest: Whitmell paces Wolverines in win

A 19-point performance from Bishop Whitmell helped the White Pines Wolverines to a senior boys basketball victory on Wednesday night.

The Wolverines picked up a narrow 63-59 win over Superior Heights Wednesday in one of two senior games on the schedule. Lucas Higham added 16 points for White Pines in the win.

Jackson Hart of Superior Heights led all scorers in the game with 38 points.

Wednesday’s other senior game saw Korah pick up a 60-56 win over St. Mary’s. Jaden Grisdale and Brennan Mitchell had 12 points each for the Colts.

In junior action, Superior Heights got 22 points from Kyle Dudezki in a 67-52 win over White Pines.

White Pines got 16 points from Chase Peplow and 14 more from Logan Whitmell.

Wednesday’s other junior game saw St. Mary’s beat Korah 42-33.

Michael Nolan had 11 points for the Knights while Martin Colicchio chipped in with eight.

Korah’s Jack Nacarrato led all scorers in the game with 16 points.

Girl’s high school volleyball action kicked off on Wednesday night with Superior Heights beating Notre-Dame-du-Sault in straight sets – 25-15 and 25-9 – in senior action.

Other senior action saw St. Mary’s also win in straight sets over White Pines. The Knights won by scores of 25-14 and 26-24.

In junior action, Superior Heights beat Notre-Dame-du-Sault (25-15 and 25-19) while St. Mary’s beat White Pines (25-15 and 25-16).
