The Soo Greyhounds desperately needed to get their season back on track with a string of victories on this homestand.

Looking like a rejuvenated and refocused team, the Soo Greyhounds played three solid hockey games and took all six points up for grabs.

On Saturday night at the Steelback Centre, the Hounds got better as the game wore on and were able to eventually wear down the Guelph Storm to claim a 6-3 victory.

The Greyhounds got off to a bit of a slower start in this game and Guelph was the first team to strike as Drew Doughty beat Hounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski for a 1-0 lead.

But the Greyhounds stormed back later in the period to grab a 2-1 lead. First, Cody Thornton was set up alone in front by Andrew Campbell and the Hounds captain beat Storm goaltender Thomas McCollum. Just 2:07 later, David Kuchejda pounced on a puck and notched his sixth goal of the year.

In the second period, Doughty becomes a thorn in the Hounds side once again as his shot beat Gajewski to tie the game at 2-2.

With under four minutes to play in the middle frame, the Greyhounds regained the lead. James Livingston potted his first Ontario Hockey League goal before Andrew Desjardins fired another past McCollum 1:28 later for a 4-2 advantage.

Before the period was out, the Storm jumped back into the game as Tyler Doig's shot fooled Gajewski and the lead was cut to 4-3 heading to the final 20 minutes of regulation time.

In the third period, the Greyhounds came out unfazed by Doig's goal and salted away the win with a pair of goals. Brandon MacLean fed Desjardins for his second of the night while shorthanded and Cody Thornton added another on the power play.

Andrew Campbell, Tyler Cuthbert and MacLean assisted twice each for the Hounds while Kuchejda and Desjardins set up a goal each.

Kyle Gajewski stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced for the win while McCollum faced 26 Greyhound shots in the loss.

Desjardins took first star honours while Doughty was named second star and Thornton third in front of 4,493 fans.

The Greyhounds (12-11-0-2) now hit the road for a single game in Saginaw on Wednesday night against the Spirit at 7:11 p.m. before returning home for games next Friday against Owen Sound and Saturday against Ottawa at the Steelback Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m.
