The Soo Greyhounds completed a home-and-home sweep of the Sarnia Sting on Wednesday night at the Steelback Centre.

In front of over 4,300 fans, rookie Michael Fine emerged as the game star by scoring twice in the third period to lead the Hounds to a 4-1 victory.

The win follows a 4-2 Greyhound victory in Sarnia on Saturday night.

In a physical affair, the Hounds received the spark they needed in the third period from the fourth line, who earned a regular shift with their intensity, of Fine between Simon Fischhaber and Jake Carrick.

With the score tied at 1-1 after two periods, Fine opened the third period by converting a perfect feed in front of the net from Carrick in the corner at 6:05.

Fine then added an insurance marker with 5:32 remaining when he wired a shot from the right circle past Sting netminder Tomi Karhunen, who had a solid game in goal.

After a scoreless first period, Ryan Wilson opened the scoring for the Sting in the second before Chris MacKinnon answered with his 11th goal of the season for the Hounds.

Aaron Alphonso, who also picked up an assist, capped the scoring with a late goal.

Hounds co-captain Dustin Jeffrey left the game at 7:43 of the third period after receiving a check to face from Wilson, who received a major penalty and a game misconduct for checking to the head.

The newest Hound, Anthony Peluso, showed his strength throughout and muscled his way to a quality scoring chance late in the first period.

Kyle Gajewski picked up the win in goal for the Hounds, who were outshot 27-25.

Before the start of the second period, the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony was held with Dr. George Shunock and Julio Francella inducted.

With the win, the Hounds jump two points ahead of the Windsor Spitfires for first place in the Ontario Hockey League's west division.

The Spitfires and Greyhounds will meet for the first time this season on Friday at the Steelback Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m.
