The highly anticipated affair between the Soo Greyhounds and the Oshawa Generals went in favour of the homeside on Saturday night at the Steelback Centre.

In front of a sold out crowd, the Greyhounds scored a 4-1 victory thanks in large part to solid defensive play and the goaltending of Kyle Gajewski.

Oshawa, led by snipers John Tavares and Brett MacLean, entered the game tied with the Kitchener Rangers for the Ontario Hockey League lead in goals scored.

But the Greyhounds limited Oshawa's scoring chances while Gajewski made some big saves when called upon.

Gajewski, who had his shutout bid spoiled with 5:51 remaining, made his best save in the final minute when he robbed Tavares of a sure goal with a quick glove hand.

Tavares, who was crunched by a first period hit from Jacob Muzzin, was held to an assist on the night as the Greyhounds did a good job of shadowing the young phenom and keeping the puck off of his stick.

Matt Caria, who had a solid game at both ends of the ice, Tyler Cuthbert, James Livingston and Dustin Jeffrey, into an empty net, scored for the Greyhounds, who were outshot 35-31.

The Hounds are back in action on Sunday at the Steelback Centre against the Guelph Storm at 7 p.m.
