The Soo Greyhounds were left scratching their heads after being silenced by Sebastian Dahm.

The recently acquired goaltender stopped all 21 shots he faced to lead the Niagara IceDogs to a 1-0 victory over the Hounds in front of 4,612 on Friday night at the Steelback Centre.

Dahm was at his best in the first period, when the Hounds outplayed the IceDogs. The game remained tight checking the rest of the way with quality scoring chances kept to a minimum.

Luca Caputi scored the game winner on his 30th goal of the season at 14:09 of the second period when his wrist shot from the right circle fooled Greyhounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski on the blocker side.

Gajewski, who faced 18 shots, also made some big stops when called upon including a dandy on an IceDogs two-on-break in the second period and after a Dustin Jeffrey giveaway midway through the third period.

The Hounds had a great opportunity to tie with just over two minutes remaining as Jacob Lalonde tried to jam the puck past Dahm on the short side but the replay confirmed the puck did not cross the goal line.

Matt Caria served the third of a five-game suspension while the locals were also without the services of Anthony Peluso, who received a two-game ban after Wednesday's game against Sudbury.

Newly acquired backup goaltender Stephane Cesar was at the game but did not dress for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds remain five points ahead of Windsor in the race for the Ontario Hockey League west division title but fall 12 points behind Kitchener for the western conference lead after Kitchener defeated Windsor 3-2 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Saginaw Spirit visits the Steelback Centre for a 7:30 p.m. start as the Hounds complete a seven-game homestand.
