NEWS RELEASE

SOO GREYHOUNDS

*******************************

The Soo Greyhounds are in full stride on and off the ice with preparations for their 34th season in the Ontario Hockey League.

The locals begin the 2005/2006 campaign this coming Friday, September 23rd when they play host to the Ottawa 67’s.

This will be the lone appearance of last year’s Eastern Conference Champions to Memorial Gardens.

Prior to the opening face-off the team will hold their Opening Ceremonies starting at 7:20 p.m.

As part of those festivities the team will unveil the West Division Championship banner they received after finishing 1st in the West division last year with a record of 33-25-9-1, good for 76 points.

Then two days later the Hounds will return to the ice to complete their home stand when they take on the visiting Erie Otters for their only visit to Sault Ste. Marie. Game time is 7 p.m.

Tickets for both games are still available by calling the Memorial Gardens at 759-5251 or by stopping by the Box Office during regular business hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Saturday 8:30 a.m until the start of the third period - Sunday

*** HOUNDS ANNOUNCE NEW COLOUR COMMENTATOR:

The Soo Greyhounds are pleased to welcome Lorne “Spanky” Robinson as the colour commentator for all their live broadcasts on Q104.

The Echo Bay, Ontario resident comes to the Hounds with a wide knowledge of sports, in particular hockey, after spending 14 years as an Ontario Hockey League linesman and earlier as a player with the Thessalon Flyers.

Robinson continues to stay involved in the local sports scene as a basketball official for local high school games as well as for the OCAA (College Basketball).

The Greyhounds are excited to have their broadcasting duo complete and are confident that “Spanky” Robinson will compliment Gerry Liscumb Jr. in providing an exciting and entertaining show all season long.

*** HURRICANE KATRINA FUNDRAISER BEING HELD AT FRIDAY’S GAME:

The Soo Greyhounds will be doing their part to help their neighbours to the south when they hold a Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser during this Friday’s game.

As part of a league-wide initiative, the Greyhounds have arranged to have members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services in attendance to help collect funds.

All funds generated will be donated for the relief efforts associated in cleaning up the aftermath from Hurricane Katrina.

The Greyhounds ask for everyone’s support with this very worthwhile cause.
