Greyhounds double up on the Petes (video)

The Soo Greyhounds completed another successful day at the office on Friday.

Four unanswered goals in the second period propelled the Greyhounds to a 6-3 win over the Peterborough Petes at the Steelback Centre.

With the victory, the Greyhounds, who have officially clinched a playoff spot, are riding a seven-game winning streak for the second time this season, the first coming in a stretch of games from Dec. 31 from to Jan. 19.

The Greyhounds, currently sitting fifth in the western conference, complete a three-game homestand on Sunday against another hot team in the Plymouth Whalers. Game time is 7 p.m.

After Brendan Taylor of the Petes and Jiri Tlusty of the Hounds traded first period power play goals, the Greyhounds dominated the Petes in the second period.

Peterborough's Zach Harnden did pot a goal 1:35 into the period before Tlusty's second goal of the game at 10:47 started a flurry of four goals that put the game out of reach.

Dustin Jeffrey scored his 30th goal of the season less than three minutes later, Cody Thornton notched his 31st goal 51 seconds after that and Matt Lyall roofed his first of the night 23 seconds after Thornton for a 5-2 lead.

The Greyhounds outshot the Petes 24-6 in the period and 44-17 in the game.

John Armstrong added a third period goal for Peterborough at 8:04 while Lyall's second goal capped the scoring 26 seconds later.

Goaltender Kyle Gajewski picked up the win while Tlusty and Lyall added assists. David Kuchejda recorded three assists with Michael Quesnele and Thornton setting up a pair each.

Veteran Hounds defenseman Tyler Cuthbert missed the game with a slight concussion suffered in Wednesday's win over Sudbury.
