Greyhounds done in by Storm (video)

If there is an example of why one should never leave a sporting event early, Sunday night's game at the Steelback Centre was it.

If there is an example of why one should never leave a sporting event early, Sunday night's game at the Steelback Centre was it.

The synchronized 180 degree turn by several people on Queen Street Sunday night were those Greyhound fans scrambling back into the arena to witness the events unfolding.

With four goals in the last five minutes of regulation time, including three in the final 1:22, the Soo Greyhounds and Guelph Storm carved out a classic finish.

Tim Priamo's goal with just over 15 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Storm recorded a 4-3 victory.

The game had been fairly uneventful up until the 55 minute mark.

Jake Muzzin scored the lone goal of the first period for the Hounds on the power play while Corey Syvret answered back for Guelph on a two-man advantage in the second period.

In the third period, Guelph took a 2-1 lead 3:17 in as Taylor Beck beat Greyhound starting goaltender Stephane Cesar after a bounce off the end boards fooled the keeper.

With 4:42 left in regulation time, the Storm seemed to put the game out of reach with Harrison Reed's goal to make it 3-1.

But with 1:22 remaining, Aaron Alphonso took a perfect cross ice feed from Brandon MacLean to beat Storm goaltender Cody St. Jacques and close the gap to 3-2.

Then 40 seconds later, Dustin Jeffrey was left alone at the side of the net and found the empty cage to tie the game and send the Steelback faithful into a frenzy.

As quicky as the momentum had swung, Priamo was left untouched in front of the Hounds net and flipped a shot over Cesar for the game winner.

Alphonso also picked up an assist while Drew Doughty and Rafael Rotter had two assist games for the Storm. Reed also set up one for a two point night.

The Greyhounds, who hold a five point lead over the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League's west division, now hit the road for three games leading into the all-star break.

On Thursday, the Hounds visit Saginaw before meeting Plymouth on Saturday and Windsor on Sunday afternoon.
