With an open overage spot, the Soo Greyhounds have added a veteran forward to the mix.

Heading into the final weekend of Ontario Hockey League exhibition play, the Greyhounds acquired overage forward Jack Beck from the Ottawa 67’s on Friday.

In return, the Greyhounds sent a third round pick in 2027 and a second round pick in 2026 to the 67’s.

“He’s a dynamic player,” Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis said. “I find that every time the puck is on his stick, he just has that swagger and high-end skill that he’s going to make players around him better.”

Beck, entering his fourth season in the league, is coming off a 2022-23 season that saw him score 12 times and add 41 assists for 53 points in 45 games with the 67’s.

Raftis said that the availability of a few players in the league had the team looking at potential moves prior to the acquisition of Beck.

“There were a few guys that we were looking at,” Raftis said. “We were of the mindset that, if we could get a couple of these guys, that was going to be great, but we’ve got great depth at all of our positions right now, so we didn’t need another guy just to come in a be depth.”

Injuries have limited Beck to 81 games over the past two seasons, but the 20-year-old’s offensive numbers have been consistent.

Raftis said the injury situation for the overage forward shouldn’t be an issue going forward.

“It doesn’t seem like it was anything that was reoccurring,” Raftis said. “I saw him play a lot in the playoffs last year. He had a great, short run there with Ottawa.”

A former second round pick of the 67’s in the 2019 OHL draft, Beck has scored 41 goals and 116 points in 137 career OHL games, which included 22 goals and 44 points in 36 games during the 2021-22 season.
