Girls spring basketball league begins

The Algoma Basketball Association began play for another season on Sunday with a pair of close games in the spring girls league.

The Algoma Basketball Association began play for another season on Sunday with a pair of close games in the spring girls league.

In the opening game, Sal-Dan Developments defeated Primo Pizza 38-34 on the strength of 21 points from Sarah Miller and 12 from Sara Levesque.

Renata Thelland replied with 10 points to lead Primo Pizza while Alexis Ambeault and Emily Kozak added six each.

In the second game, Jen Cronin potted 21 points and Sarah Medaglia added eight as Sports Gold edged the Root River Raptors 40-36.

Roberta Reid netted 15 points to lead Root River while Kathleen Thorburn added eight.
