Eight locals grab nine firsts at Special Olympic event

Eight Sault Ste. Marie Special Olympic athletes competed in the 2006 Special Olympic Regional Nordic Skiing & Snow Shoeing competition held in Parry Sound over the weekend.

The local competitors recorded nine first place finishes, eight seconds and three thirds.

Their results are as follows:

NORDIC SKIING

Rachelle Barbeau 1st 1-KM. 2nd 5-KM & 7-KM

Jason Lemcke 2nd 1-KM, 1st 2.5-KM, 1st 5-KM

Robbie Lewis 3rd 1-KM, 2nd 2.5- KM, 1st 5-KM

Jared Macmichael 1st 1-KM

Matthew Macmichael 1st 1-KM, 3rd 2.5- KM, 3rd 5- KM

Brendan Peters 2nd 1-KM, 2nd 5-KM, 2nd 5-KM

SNOW SHOEING

Robert McBride 2nd 100 M

Chance Showan 1st 200 M, 1st 400 M, 1st 800 M
