The Easy Cab Pee Wee Wildcats came up short at the Silver Sticks Tournament in Sarnia over the weekend.

In the first game the Pee Wee Wildcats fought back from a two goal deficit early in the 3rd period and nearly tied their opener against the Saugeen (Port Elgin) Shores at the 9th Annual Women’s Silver Stick Hockey Tournament.

The match-up was fast-paced and exciting. Saugeen opened the scoring at the 8:30 mark of the first period when their shooter sneaked a shot inside the left post on Wildcats goalie Rachell Graham.

The Wildcats battled through a couple of penalties in the second period with both teams providing strong defensive play and goaltending. On the powerplay at the 8:25 mark of the third, Saugeen scored another marker to move into a 2-0 lead. Easycab’s Makayla Metivier cut the deficit to one 26 seconds later with Mackenzie Gibson recording the assist.

The Wildcats had a few scoring opportunities with their goalie pulled but were unable to tie the game.

In the second game, Easy Cab Pee Wee Wildcats flexed some offensive power and evened their record at 1-1. A ten goal outburst lifted the Wildcats to a 10-3 victory over host Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting.

Six different players scored goals including Mackenzie Gibson with 3 tallies, Cierra Luxton and Maggie Lesage collecting 2 goals apiece, and singles going to Jamie Orlando, Kyra DiMicoli and Taylor Cleminson. Luxton, Makayla Metivier, Cleminson and Jessica Orazietti each picked up 2 assists. Gibson, Jaimee Carter, Stephanie D’Ettorre and Chelsea Gaudette also chipped in with an assist of their own. Starting goalie Amanda Paquin was sharp on some early pressure keeping the score 0-0.

In the third game, a hard fought 2-2 tie against Seaforth Stars (tournament winner) wasn’t enough to advance the Wildcats to the semi-finals Sunday morning. Easy Cab finished 3rd in their Pool with a 1-1-1 record.

Saturday evening's match-up was very entertaining between two solid teams. Stephanie D’Ettorre scored both Wildcat goals. Mackenzie Gibson assisted on both goals with Jamie Orlando also assisting on the 1st goal.

Easy Cab’s defensive core and goaltending played stellar in their own end holding the fast opposition to limited opportunities while the forwards generated quality chances against stalwart Seaforth goaltending.

Easy Cab provided a good effort against tough competition this weekend.
