Eagles win bronze at Canada Cup

This past weekend in the Canadian Cup Hockey Tournament, the Sir James Dunn Eagles went undefeated winning the bronze medal.

In the first game of the round robin, the Eagles beat the Lord Selkirk Royals from Selkirk, Manitoba 2-1 on goals by Steve Stadnik and Ryan Walker, also named player of the game.

The second game saw the Eagles win 4-2 against the Lester B. Pearson Patriots of Burlington, Ontario. Goals were scored by Domenic Albidone, Elvis Ruck and Thomas Stewart, the player of the game, with two.

In the third game, the Eagles defeated the Ste-Marguerite D’Youville Panthers from Brampton, Ontario 3-0 with goals by Ryan Walker, Thomas Stewart and Dalton Thibodeau, who was named player of the game. A.J. Rivard recorded the shut-out.

In the last game of the round robin, the Eagles tied the Burlington Central Blues 2-2 with J.J. Bergamin and player of the game Domenic Albidone notching the goals for the Eagles.

At the end of round-robin play the Eagles’ record of 3 wins and a tie left them tied with Burlington Central who were awarded the right to play in the gold medal game on the basis of a better goals-for and goals-against differential.

In the bronze medal game the Eagles defeated West Park of St. Catharines 3-2 in overtime. Goals were scored by Ryan Walker, David Morano (Player of the Game) and Steve Stadnik, who added the overtime winner.
