Eagles sweep city volleyball championships

The Sir James Dunn Eagles brought another pair of city championships back to their school after capturing both the junior and senior division titles at the Girls High School Volleyball City Championship on Saturday at White Pines.

The Sir James Dunn Eagles brought another pair of city championships back to their school after capturing both the junior and senior division titles at the Girls High School Volleyball City Championship on Saturday at White Pines.

In senior, the Eagles rallied from a 17-10 deficit in the first game of the championship match to defeat the White Pines Wolverines 25-20 before going on to capture the second game 25-12.

The junior Eagles also captured a straight sets win in the final over the Bawating Braves. In an exciting contest, the Eagles won by scores of 26-24 and 25-21.

After a three-way tie for first place in the junior division, points differential was used to determine the two finalists while the St. Basil Saints were eliminated.

*** NOSSA:

White Pines will host the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) AAA playdowns on Saturday. Both the Wolverines and Eagles will compete in the junior and senior divisions.

The Bawating Braves juniors and Korah Colts seniors are headed to North Bay for the AA championships while the St. Saints will send both a junior and senior team to the A championships in Espanola.
