The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds stayed close to home again for their fifth round pick in the OHL Draft as they selected Sault Ste. Marie North Stars defenceman Dylan King with the 85th overall pick.

"I just jumped up," said King after he saw that the Greyhounds had picked him in the fifth round.

"I was pretty excited and my Dad yelled," said the soft spoken King.

The Thessalon native, who is a first cousin of Greyhounds forward Jacob King, made impressive strides during the Central Region Midget AAA Championships in North Bay in early April that likely helped him move up the OHL scouting list for the annual draft.

"At the end of the year I felt more comfortable with the puck, and I felt more comfortable playing with older players," said King who made it to the final camp for the Ontario Under 17 tryouts.

"I was in better shape at the end of the year and I think that having a good All-Ontario's moved me up," he said.

Dylan remembers the 2002 OHL draft when he was watching over his cousin Jake's shoulder as he waited to see his name come up on the computer screen.

"It feels pretty good," said the younger King reflecting on the day his cousin was taken in the 8th round by the Greyhounds.

"When we were at Jake’s we were just sitting around waiting for it to come up and today kind of felt the same way," said King who's already received a phone call of congratulations from his cousin Jake who's returning home from a trip to Florida.

King was the third North Star taken in Saturday's OHL draft in the first 85 picks, and one of four local products chosen by the Greyhounds on draft day.
