There was no end to the drama on Friday night in high school hockey semi-final playoff action at Memorial Gardens.

In the opening game of the night, the St. Basil Saints scored two goals in a 48 second span to defeat the White Pines Wolverines 2-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

The first goal for the Saints came with just 38 seconds remaining in regulation time as Tommy Loza scored to tie the game at 1-1. Then 10 seconds into overtime, Nick DiCandia potted the game winner to give the regular season champions a series lead.

Jaimie Ishmael scored the lone goal for White Pines.

In the other semi-final, the St. Mary's Knights nipped the Sir James Dunn Eagles 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead.

Anthony Amadio scored twice for the Knights including the game winner with 1:28 remaining in the game while Jason Dias added another. Ari Vitala and Matt Irving scored for the Eagles.

Game two in both series are scheduled for Saturday night at the Gardens beginning at 6 p.m. with the Knights and Eagles followed by the Saints and Wolverines at 7:30 p.m.

If necessary, a third game in either series would be played on Sunday night at the Gardens beginning at 6 p.m.

The semi-final winners will clash in a best-of-five city championship series.
