Several Swimmers Shine As Dolphins Host Meet

The Soo Y Dolphins hosted the North Eastern Ontario Region Developmental Meet #2 over the weekend with several swimmers turning in top performances.

Thirty-three Dolphins competed in the event, held at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Six other teams from the region rounded out the meet, for a total of 150 swimmers. They included the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club, the Espanola Electric Eels, the Sturgeon Falls Swim Club, Sudbury Laurentian, and the Valley East Waves.

Marina Fournier, 13, Carrie-Lynne Smale, 11, Taylor Corelli, 15, and Jeff Park, 20, all had five first place finishes. Smale, who qualified for provincials for the first time in the 50-metre freestyle, and Corelli both had one second-place results.

Peter Greve, 11, Sara Ingram, 16, Brandon Corelli, 13, and Peter Olinger, 17, all had four firsts. Greve added a pair of second-place results. Ingram recorded second and third place finishes, and Olinger was third in two races.

Celine Valiquette, 13, recorded three first place results. She was also third in two other races.

Patrick Bonne, 13, was first in two races. He was second in two others and recorded a third place showing. Bridget Murphy, 11, also garnered two first place showings to go along with a second and two thirds. Kristopher Langevin, 8, won two races and was runner up in another.

Others to record top three finishes included Cait Tomlinson, 16, Alex Christie, 11, Raiden Oliver, 10, Anna Lees, 13, Holly Williamson, 13, Alexandra Gottschall-Parkin, 14, Riley Grant, 14, Elyse McCarthy, 14, Claire McCarthy, 11, Anastasia Greve, 14, Victoria Piercey, 17, and Elliot Caruso, 7.

Coach Bill Park was pleased with his team’s overall performance. “I am proud of their effort. They get better with every meet.

“The 13 and under swimmers are doing particularly well,” he says.

He credits coach Eve Fournier with a stellar job in preparing swimmers for the competition.

Park is enjoying his first year with the club.

“This is one of the best group of kids I have ever been around.”
