CCAA Announces Big Kahuna/adidas Basketball Athletes of the Month

(Cornwall, Ontario – March 7, 2007) The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) announced today the Big Kahuna/adidas Basketball Athletes of the Month for February. The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during that month. Awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each conference participating in the CCAA Basketball; the five conferences are Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Québec Student Sports Federation (QSSF), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association (BCCAA).

From Ontario, veteran Danielle D’Ettorre has been a key factor in the success of the Algoma University College Thunderbirds, leading the team in scoring and defence throughout the season. Ending the regular season with an average of 26 PPG (312 PTS total), Danielle set a new scoring record in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) regular season play for women’s basketball; the previous record of 25 PPG in regular season play was set by Iona Dawes of Humber College back in 1989. Her unparalleled scoring ability is complemented by her exceptional defensive and rebounding skills. Danielle’s leadership, dedication and hard work contributed to the Thunderbirds 1st place finish in the OCAA West Region.
