Sault native, Dan McWhinney was chosen by the "Making The Cut Committee", from semi-pro and major junior hockey players from across Canada, to attend and compete at this year's "Making The Cut" in Vernon, B.C.

Dan was there for the entire two weeks from July 24-August 6th competing against 37 other players, including 3 other goalies.

Dan knows the outcome of the event but has signed confidentiality agreements, and cannot reveal the winner. The previous version of Making The Cut had six eventual winners invited to the Canadian NHL team training camps.

This year's reality TV show is called "Making The Cut-The Last Man Standing". The eventual winner receives a significant endorsement from a major sponsor. It also gives pro scouts an opportunity to assess players that may have slipped through the cracks, or those players who were late bloomers.

The show will begin on Saturday, September 23rd on Global, with a one-hour show, and then it will be on every Sunday evening after NFL football with the final episode slated for New Year's Eve.

Dan was very impressed by the whole camp, including the games, scrimmages, workouts, testing and the experience of having Mike Keenan, (General Manager of the Florida Panthers) there, as well as his Director of Hockey Operations, Jack Birch.

He came back with a ton of experience and confidence to tackle his new goal playing pro hockey at a high level. He received interest from eight pro clubs after attending the competition.

McWhinney is currently in Toronto working out and training, to go to the Fort Wayne Komets training camp in September.
