Cougars drop a pair to Niagara

Women's Volleyball

In women's volleyball action, the Lady Cougars closed out their regular season schedule by playing host to the visiting Niagara College Knights. In all three games ,the Cougars jumped out to early leads but in each contest the Knights fought back using their size to defeat the Lady Cougars in 3 games to 0.

The Cougar women never lost composure and competeted admirally against the strong Knights surrendering games by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-14. Leading the way for the Knights were Heidi Bench with 19 points including 12 kills. For the Cougars, Katrina Zantinge and Kelly Roussell lead the way with 6 and 5 points, respectively.

In what has proven to be a rebuilding season, the Lady Cougars look to next season as motivation to work hard both in and out of the classroom as they look to 2007-2008.

Men's Basketball

In OCAA Basketball action the Cougar men played host to the same Niagara College Knights as they continue there second half improvement.

In what proved to be a slow paced first half the two teams played good half court defense; with Niagara besting the Cougars 37-23 at halftime. The second half brought out the scoring as both teams loosened defensively and began to run the full floor. The Cougar men had trouble with the size of the Knights as they eventually ran out to a 91-62 victory.

For the Knights, Anthony MacAleese led the way with 27 points with Brendan Cato chipping in 16. For the Cougars, Rodney Rogers led all scorers with 21 points and Rick Lister added 11 points. The Cougar men close out their regular season next Friday, February 16 as they travel to cross town rival Algoma University.
