Cougars Come Home Empty

The Sault College Cougars women's varsity volleyball team and the men's varsity basketball team took to the road this past weekend in London and Hamilton for a pair of regular season games.

The women's volleyball team showed a lot of heart and effort in their game against London but couldn't pull out the win against a strong Fanshawe Falcons squad. The Cougars ended up on the short end of a 3-0 straight set loss to a powerful Fanshawe club. Scores of the match were 25-8, 25-11, 25-15. Kelly Roussell and Katrina Zantinge led the Cougars with 3 kills each.

On Saturday, they played the Mohawk Mountaineers in Hamilton and again played well defensively but just couldn't put together enough offense for the win. The Ladies fell 25-14, 25-11, 25-13. The Cougars were again led by Katrina Zantinge who had 6 points while rookie Tiffany Muncaster contributed 4. The Men's basketball team also produced the same results as the ladies in their games against Fanshawe and Mohawk. They went on the road with 7 players, and despite the shortage they kept up with the Falcons for a good part of the first half. However, the legs of the seven Cougars just couldn't keep up with the intensity Fanshawe showed. The Final score was 96-53. Rick Lister paced the Cougars attack with 16 points while Rob Cloutier added 15 and Hasson Sulley 9.

Although the Mohawk game didn't turn out any better for the Cougars, the team showed a lot of heart and didn't quit until the final buzzer. Mohawk cruised to an easy victory 94-51. The Cougars Rick Lister again led the team with 21 points while Aaron Richards contributed 17 and Hasson Sulley 5.

Both Sault College varsity teams will be in action this weekend when they host Redeemer College on Friday November 3rd. Men's basketball will tip off at 7pm followed by Women's volleyball at 9pm. The Lady Cougars will be on the court again Saturday November 4th at Noon when they host the Sheridan Bruins.
