Competition remains tight at Greyhounds camp

The general manager and coaching staff of the Soo Greyhounds could share the toughest job in Sault Ste. Marie right now.

Trimming the roster down by opening night will be a job in itself but the immediate chore will be making a set of cuts following Sunday's Red and White game.

Players looking to earn a spot in the Ontario Hockey League aren't making the job for the Greyhounds brass any easier.

Much like Friday, Greyhound hopefuls put forth a strong showing during a scrimmage on Saturday evening at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

After defeating Team Black in a shootout on Friday, Team Red scored another win 6-3.

Team Red capped the game with a pair of empty net goals by Josh Moes and Behn Robertson. David Kuchejda, Tyler Gendron, Sean Jones on the power play and Robertson, with his first of the game, also scored for Team Red while Grant McGee added two assists.

Cody Thornton, on the power play, Chris Taillefer and Chris Dunham replied with goals for Team Black.

In all, several players had solid performances including 2005 seventh round pick Chris MacKinnon, veterans Brandon MacLean and Payton Liske, 2006 fourth rounder Dunham, 2005 first round selection Jacob Muzzin, 2005 eighth rounder Anthony Perdicaro and 2006 second rounder Jones.

Players will practise again on Sunday morning before taking part in the Red and White Game at 6 p.m. at the Rhodes.
