NEWS RELEASE
LAIRD RACEWAY
*************************
As we get ready for another exciting season of race action at Laird Raceway, we have a few things to tell you about. This being our 20th year, it’s about to get heated up and rolling.

First off, you may have noticed that we’ve changed the name of the track back to Laird Raceway from Superior International Motorplex. Legally, the track never changed, just the promotional side of it all, so the track staff and fans all said after this long, “if it’s not broke why fix it?” And with that we are back and hoping to be just as big as ever.

Our schedule for this year consists of nine events, three of which are race weekends. The remaining events are being held on a mix of Thursday and Friday evenings.

Our first event of the season will be our season opener Friday, June 21 with a full race bill of five classes running this year at Laird Raceway. Factory Four-Cylinder, Factory Stock, Michigan Mod, Late Models and this year we are bringing back for four nights our Sportsman class.

Saturday, June 22 we will be hosting a new one which we haven’t held before – a single 250 lap Enduro Race –  250 laps on our 1/3 mile track equals 75 miles. This event sees a class made of old cars take to the track with few rules, and no cautions. The only reason for stopping the race after a start (red flag) is if there is a safety issue or to remove dead cars to clear track. Cars that can’t finish due to crashes or breakdowns stay where they are and are not removed, effectively making the track into an obstacle course. All our rules and updates for this race can be found on our website lairdraceway.com. If you have an old junker sitting in the driveway and want to have some fun with it, this event may be for you! There is still time to register your team to race for your chance to win $3,500!

On the weekend of August 3 and 4, we will hold a Weekend Race for a Cure – this year will be in support of Autism. Saturday will include a full practice, qualifying and heat races for all five classes, and the much-anticipated introduction to mini wedge racing here in the north. Sunday we will hold the features for our five car classes. Camping on site is available.

Our Season Championship Night is set for August 23, which will showcase just what we have to offer as speed belongs here.

Then our last race event of the season will be a weekend event from Friday, September 13 to Sunday, September 15 (Sunday is a rain date if needed). This race weekend will include camping, food and entertainment all weekend long.

We are also bringing back our nightly 50/50 draw with all money raised going to charity.

As always, we have food and beverages on the grounds with a variety of menu items, including ice cream. Programs with nightly draws will be for sale as well as other souvenirs at the trailer.  We are also working on bringing back the buses to and from Sault Ste. Marie.

[As] we look back over the years – at not only our track but the others that came before us – and the grassroots drivers that kept the show alive, it is absolutely amazing how many families and multiple generations of families have all played a part in this local hobby… we could not be more excited to bring you the 2019 show season keeping the dreams alive. From all of us here at Laird Raceway, thank you for your support through the years and continuing support into the years to come.
