Colts take lead in high school hockey final

The Korah Colts took an early series lead as the city high school hockey final began on Thursday

A late goal was the difference as the city high school hockey championship opened on Thursday at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Korah’s Marc Aceti had the lone goal as the Korah Colts beat the St. Mary’s Knights 1-0 in game one of their best-of-5 championship series.

Aceti beat Knights goaltender Travis Johnson with 3:06 to go in regulation time to give the Colts the early series lead.

Dawson Hunter picked up the shutout for the Colts.

The series resumes on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. start at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Prior to game two, the league award winners will be honoured.

On Wednesday night, a shootout goal by Caden King was the difference as the CASS Huskies beat the Superior Heights Steelhawks 4-3.

With the win, CASS earned Sault Ste. Marie’s second spot in the AAA NOSSA tournament, set to begin on March 4 locally.

Mack Ableson had a goal and an assist for the Huskies in Wednesday’s win while Spencer Osborne and Austin Mortimore also scored.

Ethan West had two goals and an assist for Superior Heights. West scored a pair of goals in the third period with the Steelhawks trailing 3-1 and force overtime.

Ryan Klooster had the other goal for Superior Heights.
