Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – Victor Ciesielski of the Galt Country Club in Cambridge, Ont. fired a final-round 68 and tournament-total 294 to win the 2005 Canadian Club Champions Championship, conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA).

Starting out in the day’s third-last grouping, Ciesielski’s 68 tied the Crimson Ridge course record he had previously set during Wednesday’s second round. The 20-year old bounced back from a disappointing opening-round 83 that saw him down 13 strokes early in the championship but made a final-round charge to take home the title by four strokes. Afterwards, Ciesielski acknowledged that he wouldn’t allow his opening-round score to faze him in pursuit of the Club Champions title.

“You’re never out until 72 holes and after my round on Tuesday, that’s how I had to treat the week,” said Ciesielski, who earned an automatic exemption into the 2005 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, August 12-19 at Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, N.S. “This is the biggest win of my career and it’s just an honour to be able to come to such a fantastic golf course and represent my home club so well.”

Terry O’Brien of the Tangle Creek Golf Club in Barrie, Ont. held the clubhouse lead coming into Friday’s final round but shot a final-round 76 to finish alone in second at 298, four strokes back. Phil Patterson of the Prescott Golf Club in Prescott, Ont. and James Chan of the Beverly Golf and Country Club in Ancaster, Ont. finished tied for third at 299 while Harry Ferguson of the Windermere Golf and Country Club in Invermere, B.C. rounded out the top five at 301.

Sault Ste. Marie native Frank Kucher of the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club was the top local shooting a final-round 85 to finish tied for 52nd.

The following are final round scores from the 2005 Canadian Club Champions Championship.
