Saturday saw a pair of champions crowned as the Northern Football Conference and Ontario Varsity Football League each held their championship games on Saturday. In the NFC tilt, the Tri-City Outlaws capped off a magical playoff run with a 13-9 victory over the hometown Milton Marauders. On top of generating 439 yards of total offense, the Outlaws, who defeated the Sault Steelers one week earlier to advance to the finals, held the Marauders to 205 net yards on the night. The Outlaws finished the season with a 4-4 record but now find themselves as the NFC representative in the Canadian Senior final which will be held at Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium on Sept. 24. Their opponent, which will be from Alberta, has yet to be determined. In the OVFL Championship, it took overtime, but the Niagara Spears won a 25-22 decision over the 5-3 Mississauga Warriors at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London. Niagara finished the season with a 7-1 record, identical to that of the Sault Sabercats, who were upset by the Guelph Bears in the opening round of the OVFL playoffs.
