The Central Algoma Secondary School Huskies girls basketball teams hosted the W.C. Eaket Royals in NSSSA league play. The CASS Senior Girls lost their first game of the season 31-28 and dropped to 5 wins and 1 loss.

The Central Algoma Secondary School Huskies girls basketball teams hosted the W.C. Eaket Royals in NSSSA league play.

The CASS Senior Girls lost their first game of the season 31-28 and dropped to 5 wins and 1 loss. The Huskies lead 18-13 at the half but with less than 2 seconds to play and the game tied at 28-28, Aly McDeugall hit the front end of a one and one to win the game for the Royals. Aly had 16 points for the Royals while Amanda Hollingsworth and Tiana Bucknell had 11 and 8 points each for CASS.

The CASS Junior team lost their second game of the season 30-22 to the Royals. The CASS record is now 4 wins and 2 losses. Tegan Wiebe had 17 points for Eaket while Marabeth Mills and Hayley Oikari had 6 each for CASS.

*** HOCKEY:

The Central Algoma hockey team opened their season against the St. Basil Saints on Oct. 25 at the Rhodes Arena.

Brandon Campbell, Cole Julien and Thomas Ross scored for CASS who lost 4-3 in an overtime shootout.

High School hockey will be hosting a 16-team High School Hockey Tournament January 10-12. Most of the games will be played at the Rhodes Arena. The tournament is convened by Central Algoma Secondary School. The twelve teams include: CASS, St. Mary’s, Bawating, Sir James Dunn, St. Benedict’s (Sudbury), Lo Ellen Park (Sudbury), Lockerby (Sudbury), Leamington, Algonquin (North Bay), Widdifield (North Bay), Espanola, Franco Cite (Sturgeon Falls). There is still room for four more teams.

CASS is coached by Mr. Charlie Cooke, Mr. Jordie Corcoran and Mr.Chris Wootton. The trainer is Matt Valiquette.

CASS will host 6 league games at the Desbarats Arena on Nov. 22 & 24, Dec. 13, Jan. 8, 15, & 19. All start at 4:30 p.m. although some times may change in the future. Please call to comfirm. The alumni game will be held in Bruce Mines Dec. 21 at 7 PM.

The team will also be travelling to Lively, North Bay and Burlington for tournaments to give them at least a 36 game schedule.
