CASS hosts North Shore x-country on revamped trails

Last week, 140 runners from 7 schools decended on Central Algoma Secondary School for the 2006 North Shore Cross Country Championships.

CASS has never hosted cross country running. The existing cross country ski trails were widened and gravelled with the help of the community through fundraising.

Manitoulin S.S. won the aggregate title capturing five divisions while Espanola won Senior Boys.

Caroline Enrhardt from Espanola won Midget Girls with a time of 12:21. Shaylene Kern from CASS finished 8th with a time of 15:42. Other CASS runners were Courtnery Vaughan (10th), Madison Ableson (10th) and Brittany Hollingsworth (15th).

Emma Tallman from Manitoulin won Junior Girls with a time of 17:17. Deanna Phillips from CASS finished 4th with a time of 22:48.

Katie Scannell from Manitoulin won Senior Girls with a time of 22:08. Emily Golec from CASS finished 5th with a time of 25:23. Other CASS runners were Karly MacLeod (8th), Brittany Maguire (10th), Katherine Goulding (11th), Amanda Hollingsworth (14th), Micaela Gilbertson(16th), Laurel Knowles (18th), Shelby Coulter(19th), Stephanie Walker (20th) and Lindsay Armstrong (21st).

Midget Boys was won by Dean Fox from Manitoulin with a time of 20:48. Cody Grant from CASS finished 13th with a time of 23:21. The other CASS runner was Rob Gallinger (15th).

Junior Boys was won by Jeremy Brown from Elliot Lake with a time of 23:43. Colton King from CASS was 5th with a time of 25:40. Other CASS runners were Ethan Campbell (8th), Seth Whitley (9th), Ben Fairburn (10th), Stephen Lajambe (18th), Justin Roberts (21st) and Nathan Coombs (22nd).

Senior Boys was won by Brian Killen from Elliot Lake with a time of 25:37. Corey Marques from CASS finished second with a time of 27:09. Other CASS runners were Shane Alberta (6th), Kyle Gilbertson (13th), Josh Gardner (27th), Pat Guinti( 28th), Joe Lee (29th) and Jason Kern (31st).
