CASS basketball teams advance to finals

The Central Algoma Secondary School boys basketball teams have advanced to the North Shore championships games. The CASS senior boys will host the NSSSA Championship game Feb. 15 at 1:15 PM. CASS advanced to the finals by defeating W.C.

The Central Algoma Secondary School boys basketball teams have advanced to the North Shore championships games.

The CASS senior boys will host the NSSSA Championship game Feb. 15 at 1:15 PM. CASS advanced to the finals by defeating W.C. Eaket 62-32 at CASS. Corey Myers had 19 points while Jay Ripplinger had 13 for the Huskies, who led 28-4 at half. Marcel Rifou had 9 points for Blind River.

The junior boys hosted Espanola in the semi-finals and will now travel to Elliot Lake Feb. 15 for the championship game. CASS defeated Espanola 48-30 after the game was tied 21-21 at the half. The Huskies outscored the Spartans 14-2 in the fourth quarter to take command of the game. Alec Ross had 15 points while Seth Whitley and Ethan Campbell had 12 each for the Huskies. Jeff Mooney had 13 points for Espanola.

The midget boys completed the sweep by defeating Elliot Lake in their own gym 41-19. Matt Eddy had 12 points while Rob Gallinger had 10 and Logan Jones 9 to lead the Huskies. The Huskies will now travel to Espanola Feb. 15th for the championship.

*** WRESTLING:

The Sault Ste. Marie High School Wrestling Championships will be held at CASS Monday Feb. 12. starting at 9 a.m. This was rescheduled from Feb. 7 which was postponed due to the weather.

*** VOLLEYBALL:

The CASS senior girls will be hosting the NSSSA championships Feb. 14. The championship game is at 2 PM. The Junior girls will be at Jeunesse Nord (Blind River) participating in their championship on Feb. 14.
