Caputo shares lead after one round of junior golf championships

BORTOLOTTO LEADS NGA JUNIOR WITH ROUND OF 73 6/28/2006 3:55:17 PM

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (June 28, 2006) - Matt Bortolotto of the Idylwylde G.C. takes a two shot lead into the second round of the NGA Junior Championship after firing a one over-par 73 today.

Mike Caputo (Crimson Ridge G.C.) and William Stuckless (North Bay G.C.) are currently sitting second overall and leading the Juvenile Division with rounds of 75.

Tyler Kasubeck (Sault Golf Club) and Scott Reed (Sault Golf Club) both posted scores of 77.

In the Bantam (under 13) Division Andrew McKenney of the Sault Golf Club leads the way after an impressive round of 75 today.

Fifty (50)of the top junior golfers from accross Northern Ontario are competing today in the Northern Golf Association Junior Championship at Crimson Ridge Golf Course.

The golfers are competing within three age categories: Bantam (13 and under), Juvenile (14 to 16) and Junior (17&18).

The event is also a qualifying event for the Golf Association of Ontario Provincial Championship to be held later this year. Two (2) Bantam, Five (5) Juvenile and Four (4) Junior age players will advance to that championship July 18th to 21st at the Whitewater Golf Course in Thunder Bay.

A number of local golfers are testing their skills against the north's best like Andrew McKenney, Hayden Murray, Scott Reed, Tyler Kasubeck and Brandon Stubbs from the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club and Nathan Priesel and Mike Caputo from Crimson Ridge.

The first round will be completed today with round two beginning tomorrow at 7:30am.
