Silver Creek is extremely excited to announce that a member of the Women’s Canadian National hockey team, Brigette Lacquette, will be a special guest here this upcoming July for a three day camp for local female hockey players.

Lacquette, born in Cote First Nation, has been selected to represent Canada on the national scene seven times during her career and currently plays in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League as a leader of the Calgary Inferno.

The camp, which will also feature a golf session at Silver Creek, will take place at the John Rhodes arena Friday, July 7 - Sunday, July 9 for girls ages 7-14. The three day camp will include three on ice sessions and one golf clinic.

All activities during the three day camp will be completely free of charge to any local female hockey player from Garden River or Sault Ste Marie (maximum 30 girls per session) thanks to proceeds from the Little Caesars Winter Classic.

This past February Silver Creek Golf Course in Garden River First Nation hosted the 4th annual Little Caesars Winter Classic. Over 140 players participated in both men’s and women’s divisions. This year’s Winter Classic was the largest held to date and helped garner more than $5,000 to be used to promote youth participation in sport in the community.

Silver Creek General Manager Jamie Henderson has seen this event grow every year.

‘What started out as an idea to play some outdoor hockey and give back to the community has grown into something really special for the staff at Silver Creek. To be able to assist local families, whether it’s with new equipment or hockey camps over the years makes this is a weekend we truly look forward to every winter. When I watched Brigette’s story last year I made it a point to try and get her here to our community and we are so excited for her to come in July! The support of the participants and the sponsors is really appreciated and it’s what makes our community so special to live in.’

Little Caesars owner and operators Mike and Sue Flammia has been a supporter of the event since its inception four years ago.

‘Little Caesars is extremely proud to be involved within our community in numerous ways. The Silver Creek Winter Classic has offered us a unique opportunity to give back and we couldn’t be more happy to offer our youth the chance to attend a hockey and golf camp and to learn from our country’s female role models in Brigette Lacquette.’

Silver Creek would like to thank the following supporters who helped make this event possible: Little Caesars, Godfrey Realty Group, Nu Era Funding, Subway Restaurant, Ensurco Insurance Group, Kevin Cain Consulting, Savings World, Sun Life Financial, Drivers Seat Sault Ste Marie, Jeff Viotto-The Co- Operators, Beckett Law, Roadhouse Bar and Grill, Soo Source for Sports, Trimline Algoma, Molson Coors and God’s Country Clothing.

Silver Creek is an 18-hole golf course located in Garden River First Nation. The golf course hosts two winter fundraising events: the Winter Classic and Silver Creek Cup, both who have generated in three plus years more than $45 000 for local youth in sport and families in need during difficult times.
