Canada wins Under-18 Junior World Cup

The Junior World Cup wrapped up today in Breclav, Czech Republic and it was a golden day for the Canadian Under-18 team. Goaltender Trevor Cann stopped all 20 shots he faced as Canada defeated Team USA 3-0 in the Gold Medal game earlier today.

The Junior World Cup wrapped up today in Breclav, Czech Republic and it was a golden day for the Canadian Under-18 team.

Goaltender Trevor Cann stopped all 20 shots he faced as Canada defeated Team USA 3-0 in the Gold Medal game earlier today. Brett Sonne led the way offensively for the Canadians with a pair of goals including a first period goal that turned into the game-winner.

Tyler Ennis scored the other goal and also picked up an assist for Team Canada. Sault Ste. Marie native Zack Torquato was held off the scoresheet in the victory.

Canada finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record insluding round robin wins over Switzerland, Sweden and Slovakia. Team USA cruised to the title game with wins over Finland, Russia, and Czech Republic (in overtime).

American goaltender Jeremy Smith stopped 27 shots in the loss.

Canadian forwards Bryan Cameron, Angelo Esposito and Sonne finished in a four-way tie with Slovakian forward Adam Bezak for third in scoring with four points each. Cameron’s four goals tied him for the tournament lead. Canadian defenceman Drew Doughty led all defencemen in scoring with three points. *** TOURNAMENT RESULTS
